HDD Hibernation

You can specify the period of time hard disks remain idle before entering HDD hibernation mode. During HDD hibernation, hard disks stop spinning, reducing power consumption and extending the lifespan of hard disks. You can specify different periods of time for internal hard disks and external eSATA/USB hard disks.

Why won't my Synology NAS hibernate?

Please note that the following services will prevent the Synology NAS from entering hibernation mode. Furthermore, the system will exit hibernation mode two minutes before any scheduled task.

Deep Sleep

Deep sleep for expansion units can be enabled through the paired Synology NAS interface. You can configure the expansion unit and paired Synology NAS to idle for different periods of time. Therefore, the expansion unit can be set to enter deep sleep while the paired Synology NAS remains online.
