Streaming Service
You can watch digital TV programs broadcast live with the streaming service provided by Video Station. Once the channel scan is completed, you can stream programs for playback with VLC media player installed on your local computer.
Streaming Settings
You as DSM admin or users belonging to the administrators group can choose whether authentication is required when other users are streaming TV programs for playback. You can also restrict the number of viewers streaming TV programs.
To enable authentication for live streaming service:
- Click the TV Recording tab, and go to Settings > TV Recording.
- In the Live Stream section, tick Enable authentication for live streaming service, and enter user credentials which other users will be requested to provide in the fields.
- Click OK.
To enable viewer limit:
- Click the TV Recording tab, and go to Settings > TV Recording.
- In the Live Stream section, tick Limit the total number of people for TV live streaming, and specify a number in the text field.
- Click OK.
Live Streaming
Before live stream digital TV programs for playback, please make sure you have installed VLC media player on your PC.
To live stream digital TV programs:

Click the TV Recording tab, and go to Schedule > Program Guide.
- Select a channel whose program you want to stream from the channel list on the left panel, click the program which is currently broadcasting in the main area, and click Live Stream.
- A pop-up window will appear asking you to click the Live Stream icon at the top-right corner to open the streaming URL. Click OK and Close to close the Schedule window, or you will not be able to continue.
- Click the Live Stream icon as instructed. In the window that appears, copy and paste the Streaming URL to VLC player for playback. You may be required to enter user credentials for authentication when launching the streaming service.
Note:
- DSM admin or users belonging to the administrators group can configure port forwarding rules by specifying the destination port as 9006 for DiskStation users, allowing them to access your DiskStation over the Internet. For more information, please see Router Configuration.
- While installing VLC Player, make sure you have ticked Mozilla plugin and ActiveX plugin.
- VLC is supported by the following browsers:
- Windows: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome
- If VLC is installed on your computer, and you are connecting to DSM with a supported web browser, Video Player supports the following formats: avi, dat, mkv, vob, asf, wmv, mov, qt, divx, flv, swf, rm, rmvb, mpg, mpeg, mpeg1, m1v, mpeg2, m2v, mp2, dvr-ms, m2ts, mts, m2t, ts, tp, trp, mpeg4, m4v, mp4, 3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, ogv, webm, mpe, xvid
- If VLC is not installed on your local computer, video player will play videos supported by HTML5. Please refer to here for HTML5 videos supported by different web browsers.
