DHCP Server
DHCP Server turns your DiskStation into a DHCP server which can assign dynamic IP addresses to DHCP clients within your local area network.
See the sections below to learn how to configure the following settings of your DHCP Server.
General
Click the General tab to enable DHCP Server and manage its subnet list. Each subnet contains a range of local IP addresses that can be assigned to your DHCP clients.
To enable DHCP Server:
-
Tick Enable DHCP Server.
-
Enter a value in the Address lease time field to set the DHCP lease time (in minutes) for IP addresses assigned to DHCP clients.
-
Enter the DNS address for your DHCP clients in the Primary DNS (required) and Secondary DNS (optional) fields.
-
Set the domain name for DHCP Server in the Domain name (optional) field.
-
Click Apply.
To add a subnet:
-
Click Add and then specify the information under the following columns:
-
Enable: Enable or disable the subnet.
-
Start: The first IP address of the subnet.
-
End: The last IP address of the subnet.
-
Netmask: The subnet mask.
-
Gateway: The gateway of the subnet.
-
Click Apply.
Note:
-
You can only add up to 32 subnets on your DHCP Server.
-
The IP range for a subnet should be within any the following:
-
From "10.0.0.0" to "10.255.255.0"
-
From "172.16.0.0" to "172.31.255.0"
-
From "192.168.0.0" to "192.168.255.0"
To remove a subnet
Select the subnet you want to remove from the subnet list, click Remove and then click Apply.
Client List
Click the Client List tab to see the list of DHCP clients and its network configuration (such as MAC address, IP address, hostname, and the amount of time left before the DHCP lease expires).
Furthermore, if you want to have a client always receive the same IP address during DHCP lease renewal, you can add the client to the address reservation list.
To add a client to the address reservation list:
Under the Client List, right-click the client and then choose Add to address reservation. For more information about managing clients added to the reservation list, refer to the next section.
Address Reservation
Click the Address Reservation tab to manage the list of the DHCP clients that will always receive the same IP address during DHCP lease renewal.
To add a client to the address reservation list, do either of the following:
-
Add a client on the client list to the reservation list (see To add a client to the address reservation list for more information).
-
Click Add to add a new entry on the address reservation list, and then specify the client's MAC address, the IP address you want to assign to the client, and the client's hostname. Click Apply to finish the setup.
To remove a client from the reservation list:
Select the client, click Remove and then click Apply. Clients removed from the list might receive a different IP address during next DHCP lease renewal.
